Dear Girls on the Run (GOTR) caregivers,
The fall season is officially underway, and we hope your child is having a wonderful time in our life-changing program.
YOUR GOTR GIRL’S LEARNING JOURNEY: AT HOME AND BEYOND
In the first four lessons of Hello, Mountain Mover!, the girls have been learning valuable skills to boost their confidence and embrace their individuality. They started by forming connections with their peers and creating team agreements to create a supportive environment. Through the Recipe of Me lesson, they identified the unique qualities that make them special, learning to celebrate their individuality. They've also been introduced to their I Can! Power, a tool for staying positive when faced with challenges, and learning how to find their own happy pace, encouraging them to follow what feels right for them rather than comparing themselves to others.
In the next four lessons, the girls will continue building on these foundations by focusing on perseverance and self-awareness. They will practice Stick-With-It strategies to use when facing challenges such as, taking breaks and trying again, asking for help, and celebrating small wins. They will also learn to recognize the differences between positive “I Can” self-talk and negative “I Can’t” thoughts, understanding why it's important to recognize the negative and amplify the positive helps to help them build confidence when facing tough challenges. Teams will explore how mistakes are essential for learning and growth, shifting their mindset to embrace challenges. Lastly, they will learn ways to navigate big emotions through techniques like the five-finger breathing method and the Name It & Let It Pass strategy, which will help them navigate tough moments and move mountains with resilience and emotional awareness.
Talking about emotions can be difficult, so we encourage you to connect with your participant and engage in conversations about what they learned or discussed during Girls on the Run practice.

Keep Kids Healthy Playing Sports - Advice from our friends at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children & Rocky Mountain Pediatric OrthoONE
Sports can help kids burn off extra energy and stay healthy, but unfortunately injuries among young athletes are very common. More than one million people ages 19 and younger went to emergency rooms for sports injuries in 2023 alone. Concussions, broken bones, sprains, bruises and overuse injuries are some of the most common. Still, injuries vary depending on sport and the type of movement being performed.
