Our end of Season 5K is a week away!! Here’s a quick reminder of all of what you need to know to be prepared for race day:
Girls on the Run 5K @ Spring Canyon Park
When: Sunday, November 5
Where: Spring Canyon Park (3156 S Overland Trail, Fort Collins, CO 80526)
Arrival Time: 9:15 AM
Race Start: 10:00 AM
You will find the start line directly east of Spring Canyon Creekside Shelter.
Your girl is ALREADY registered for the race. Parents MUST register if they want to run the 5K. ALL runners on the course must have a bib number. The cost is $25 online; $30 for race day registration. Register online here.
Parking: Parking is available in northern lots near Creekside Shelter (enter park via S Overland Trail). If you are using Google Maps to navigate to Spring Canyon Park, please enter “Parking at Spring Canyon Park” as your destination.
Girl Bib Pick Up
Coaches will have your daughter’s race bib and give it to the girls on race day. Girls will meet coaches at the Girls on the Run Meet & Greet area. This is also where you should plan to reconnect with your runners after the race!

TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL RACE DAY EXPERIENCE:
Arrive early. It will be crowded and may take a little extra time to find your group or check in.
Lay out your clothes the night before. Girls should wear their Girls on the Run t-shirt.
Hydrate well the day before the race.
Get up 2 to 3 hours before the race to allow your body time to wake up and digest breakfast. A light breakfast, like toast, cereal, and bananas, are great options.
Drink water 2 hours before the start of the race. Don’t over hydrate or drink too close to the start of the race because it could cause cramping.
Go to the bathroom before the race (there will be facilities available on site).
Don’t go out too fast. Pace yourself.
Meet your team, family and friends at your team sign in the Meet and Greet area after the race. Make this your after-race meeting place.
Stretch! Breathe! Have fun! You can do it!
This is a rain, shine, or snow event! Please dress accordingly. Water will be provided for all runners. We ask that spectators bring their own water.

Daylight Savings is around the corner. Be sure to FALL BACK on Sunday, November 5th! Our friends at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children have some great suggestions to ensure adequate sleep for young athletes. “Athletes need an appropriate amount of sleep for optimal health and peak performance,” explains Rachel Brewer, MD, a pediatric sports medicine physician (and Girls on the Run coach) with Rocky Mountain Pediatric OrthoOne. “Research shows that sleep increases speed, accuracy and reaction times in athletes.
