“Take my experience with calculus, for example...That experience, like many others, reminded me of the lessons 9-year-old me had learned ten years ago: Confidence isn’t about perfection; it’s about believing in yourself even when you’re in over your head and the only girl in a calculus class full of frat guys. It’s about showing up, even when you are unsure of yourself. It is about taking up space, unapologetically, and continuing to be your authentic self.”

Olivia has been awarded $2,500 to support her travel to Toulouse, France where she will be interning with Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) and learning French.

Mackenzie is a recent college graduate with a degree in Geology pursuing a career in science communication.

“What I appreciated most about Girls on the Run was its balance between individual growth and collective support. We celebrated each other’s milestones, lifted each other when someone was having a hard day, and created an environment where leadership was shared. I learned that being a leader doesn’t mean doing everything alone – it means helping others rise with you.”

Mackenzie has been awarded $1,500 to invest in podcasting equipment for her journey to Greenland. In Greenland, Mackenzie will be a part of a Science and Art hub - a space where scientists, artists, and Indigenous community members gather to explore climate solutions. She intends to create a podcast to share the stories of those studying, learning, and working there.

“People’s star power is a person’s personality, how they are, and who they are, and it also is what keeps them going to achieve their dreams and goals in life. During this lesson, we learned that we make a person’s star power stop shining by the words we choose to say to them. When we are rude to another girl or another person, we make their star power dim, and the impact that our words have on them can be tragic, and sometimes we cannot take them back, even if we don’t mean it. On the contrary, if we choose our words wisely and choose to say kind and nice words, we also choose to help a person’s star power become bigger and brighter.”

Daniella has been awarded $500 to be used for tuition for an outdoor education field trip with her middle school. $225 will be used to pay the fee for the field trip and the remaining funds will be used at SCHEELS to purchase a backpack and hiking boots for her adventure.

“[Girls on the Run] has taught me that showing compassion and empathy, rather than frustration, is crucial because everyone is facing their own struggles, and it is always best to show kindness. This lesson has helped me better work and collaborate with others because I am able to understand those I work with on a deeper level. It has also helped me strengthen my friendships because I am more supportive and considerate when I hang out with people.”

Madison has been awarded $1,500 to purchase a MacBook Air and an annual subscription for video editing software. Madison will use these resources to create a portfolio to submit with her college applications.
